Water Guardians is a bold look at the return of beavers to Cornwall. Following three pioneering projects, the film explores the incredible benefits beavers bring to ecosystems and climate resilience, while navigating the bureaucracy and challenges that still shape their progress. As these projects take root, they reveal the potential for a wilder and healthier Cornwall.

Following the film, director Zac Lazarou will give us a short-talk on the making of the film and all things beavers!

Thursday 3rd December, arrive from 6.30pm for a 7pm screening start.

Kernow Conservation CIC is a Cornwall-based organisation dedicated to native species recovery, boosting local biodiversity and community engagement. They bridge key stakeholders, connecting farmers, landowners, businesses, and the local community. They use activities that create participation as well as tangible changes to landscapes. Its key projects include introducing water voles, raising osprey platforms, building pine marten boxes, and hosting volunteer days and beaver tours. 

Zac Lazarou is one of Kernow Conservation’s directors. He first brought the organisation to life while studying zoology at the University of Exeter, Penryn alongside his co-Director David Carrier. He is also a freelance filmmaker who produced and directed ‘Water Guardians’. Bringing his ecological and storytelling knoweldge together, he hopes to continue telling local stories that can raise awareness and create an impact.
