our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion

Ocean health is everyone's business. No matter where you're from, how you identify, or what your abilities are, the ocean impacts your life. It gives us the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the livelihoods we depend on. The ocean doesn’t discriminate, and neither do we.

But we know there's more to do.

We recognise that, like many environmental charities, our team is predominantly able-bodied, white, and female. However, we're proud that our Senior Leadership Team and Trustee Board are equally represented by men and women, challenging the norm of male-dominated leadership.

So, how are we working to drive change?

  • Training: We provide ongoing, bi-annual EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) training for all teams and our Trustee Board.
  • Risk Assessment: We conduct internal reviews to identify and address the risks of lacking diversity, with clear action plans for improvement.
  • Representation: We're committed to increasing diverse representation in our campaigns by collaborating with a broader range of voices.
  • Recruitment: We anonymise job applications and work to ensure our roles reach a wider, more diverse audience.
  • Trustee Leadership: We always have a Trustee dedicated to leading EDI efforts, delivering training, and guiding our initiatives.
  • Continuous Learning: We're actively seeking opportunities to learn, share, and collaborate with organizations that can help us improve.
  • Reaching Communities: We are midway through a 3 year project with The National Lottery to improve our online messaging and reach individuals outside of our circle.

We are always real and honest, no shortcuts here! We know we’ll stumble sometimes, but when we do, we’ll fess up, learn our lesson, and keep moving forward with a smile. Got some feedback for us? We would love to hear it.
