That's a Wr'App'!
Today, we announce the closure of our 2 Minute App. Named ‘beachclean’, our app was first designed back in 2015 to complement our coastal campaign #2minutebeachclean and our stations network so that we could log what you were picking up on the beaches.
We also used our app for our own research purposes, and it was used by students of all ages who came to visit us at our Bude pod.
Since the pandemic, we felt that the app needed to do so much more, both on the beaches and in-land, and we explored different avenues to make that work, but sadly, in 2022, the funding for the App stopped.
As we move forward as environmental educators with a shiny new strategy to change more mindsets by emulating our Bude ‘blueprint’ pod across the UK, we have had to make the difficult decision to close the App.
It’s done us proud, and we still retain all of the information that you helped us compile.
A heartfelt thank you to our App developer, Alan Beech, who volunteered with us from the start and worked with us to adapt and update it continually.
Another thanks goes to Michael Wray, an employee who started making waves with its capabilities.
In line with one of our 3 main objectives, ‘pass it on’, we genuinely feel that our work is now done with the App.
We know that it’s inspired and encouraged others to create their own Apps, and it’s vital that we support a universal approach to litter logging so that we can get a better understanding of the main culprits and littered areas.
We support Planet Patrol and The Shark Trust (great for egg case hunting) if you want to sign up for their Apps. Please do continue to snap your beach or in-land litter hauls using the hashtags #2minutebeachclean and #2minutelitterpick.
As a national charity, we rely on support from the public and couldn’t do our work without you. Donations would be appreciated if you would like to support The 2 Minute Foundation.
