A charity update
After an amazing ten years with The 2 Minute Foundation, our CEO Nicky Green is moving on to pastures new and waving goodbye to team 2 Minute.
Nicky wanted to say a few words herself, to our community and to everyone that has been a part of 2 Minute during her time with us.
"I have had the pleasure of being part of Team 2 Minute since 2015 and have been proud CEO since 2022, I step away with a heart full of incredible memories. It’s been an experience I will never forget.
Martin Dorey and Tab Parry set up The Beach Clean Network Ltd that encouraged beach cleaners to connect online. I worked for Martin’s writing business when he came up with the incredible idea of #2minutebeachclean. I then witnessed the radical growth of the hashtag on social media and I wanted to be part of this exciting and positive environmental movement! I got my foot in the door and gave it the biggest nudge I could!
I started out on Station sales then managed the online shop. I recruited the wider team and became COO when we became a charity in 2019. In 2022 I was appointed as CEO.
Over the past 2 years, myself and the incredible Team have made our work relatable to everyone. Whether someone is taking part in the small simple act of picking up litter from the beach or park, or making simple swops to mitigate their impact, everyone can get involved and take action for ocean health. We’ve gone on Tour to Northumberland, ran two successful social action campaigns and have just launched our shiny new sustainable ‘Re:stations’. Leaving as the new Stations are launched seems to be a serendipitous moment.
As CEO, I have personally felt a huge sense of satisfaction helping businesses with their ESG reporting at the same time as tapping into their workforce’s mindsets to make change from the inside out. More individuals need to understand the importance of taking action for ocean health.
There are many highlights of my time here but a few will stick with me; finding my first Cornish happy stone during a beach clean, assisting at Beach School and soaking up the incredible knowledge of the beach school team, being part of a theatrical performance to world leaders at Carbis Bay at the G7 Summit, the moment we became a national charity, beach cleaning with Astronaught Tim Peake, super salad sundowners topped off with a rockpool ramble, getting the 2 Minute message on the main stage at Oceanfest before Dizzy Rascal performed.
Working at The 2 Minute Foundation has inspired me in my own plastic aware journey. I’ve witnessed communities connecting and bonding through the placement of our Stations and followed individuals across our socials taking positive action against climate change. Some had been fledgelings since the beginning and have gone on to do great things in the environmental space.
I now pass the baton to Interim CEO Adam Hall – a true Sustainability legend and former Trustee of The 2 Minute Foundation. He has been a supporter from the start and helped us kick start production of the Stations.
Thank you to MBE Martin Dorey, Founder of #2minutebeachclean who I owe this opportunity to in the first place. Without Martin’s vison, the charity would not exist. Thank you to Trustee Chair, Melvyn Garrett, who has steered the ship and been an incredible advisor. If there were gold medals for a Trustee, you’d be on that podium and the Team and Trustees are very lucky to have you. Thanks to Emma Thomasson and Karen Wilson for being a supportive ear when needed and Stuart Spooner for your dedication. A thanks to past Trustee Andy Cummings, Martin Jackson and Martin Dorey who was on the board too. And finally, Kate Cox, who was a stalwart trustee from the start, and a solid advisor.
Finally thanks goes out to the incredible team who continually inspire me each day - Claire Giner, Anne Welch, Liam Hurst, Fiona Boyd, Georgie Shannon and Simon Shergold and new member of staff Josie Dean. I shall miss you all very much! I’d also like to thank those who I have worked with over the years who have hugely contributed to the cause.
My 2 Minutes here is up, but I will always have 2 minutes or more to help protect the places that I love, where I live and where I visit. Will you?
Be sure to join the community and take positive action today #2minutesofpositvity.
It’s been an enormous privilege. Thank you.
Nicky x "
Our trustees naturally wanted to also thank Nicky for dedication to our charity and for all she has done.
"We are so proud of all that Nicky has achieved as CEO and are immensely grateful for the invaluable contributions she has made to the 2 Minute Foundation and wider community over the last ten years.
Nicky’s vision for the 2 Minute Foundation, her strategic guidance, positivity, inspiration and energy have enabled it to grow and reach wider audiences, encouraging everyone to join the 2 Minute Community and take part in 2 minute campaigns. As CEO, Nicky has ensured that the charity’s mission is at the heart of all 2 minute activities. This has resulted in thousands and thousands of 2 minute actions and positive environmental impact on our beaches, coastlines, the ocean and more.
And under her guidance and leadership, the 2 Minute Team has also grown in both numbers and confidence. Nicky has built a wonderful team of strong and committed 2 Minute advocates who we know will continue to move the charity forward.
We wish Nicky all the very best in her future adventures and thank her for her dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place, 2 minutes at a time.
With Nicky’s departure, we look forward to working with the new interim CEO Adam Hall.
Most recently, Adam has worked in the sustainability sector and has a love of
the outdoors and the ocean and is a rather keen surfer. He also knows the 2
Minute Foundation very well, having previously been a valued Trustee himself
for several years.”
